Patent attorney candidates: the long journey to reach the goal.
Patent attorneys have a thorough knowledge both of the relevant law and of science and technology. In order to live up to this claim, patent attorneys in Germany have to undergo one of the longest periods of training. In this phase, the patent attorney applicants are also known as candidates.
The authority to admit someone to the training course lies with the President of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office. The applicant (candidate) must have a degree in a scientific or technical subject, after which he completes a training course lasting at least 34 months in the field of industrial property law.
